Changsha Commerce & Tourism Vocational College has taken Xiang cuisine beyond China’s borders. The college recently signed an agreement with SHAMAX, a Malaysian company, to launch a chef training program in Malaysia — marking the official launch of its Chuyi Overseas Skills Training Center.
This is not a one-off event. In April, the college had already set up a Xiang cuisine training base in Malaysia and co-founded the Malaysian branch of the Xiang Cuisine Institute with partner institutions. Now, the curriculum goes beyond cooking techniques — it covers digital restaurant operations and cross-cultural catering management, targeting local Malaysian trainees. The goal, according to the college, is to create a replicable model for exporting vocational education through food culture. From wok hei to business know-how, Changsha is teaching the world how to cook — and how to run a kitchen.
